On February 23, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Kyrgyz Republic, Jeenbek Kulubaev, spoke at the high-level segment of the disarmament conference taking place at the UN Office in Geneva, as reported by the press service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Kyrgyz Republic.

This participation was historic for Kyrgyzstan, as the country was represented at this conference for the first time.

During his speech, Kulubaev emphasized that global security is undergoing significant changes, manifested in the growing distrust between countries, the weakening of existing treaties, and the rapid advancement of military technologies that outpace international legal norms.

Kyrgyzstan expressed particular concern regarding the expiration of the START III Treaty and the absence of a new mechanism ensuring strategic stability and deterrence among nuclear powers. The Minister also noted the crisis in the European security system and the weakening of confidence-building measures, urging parties to reconsider their approaches to prevent new large-scale conflicts.

Kulubaev reaffirmed Kyrgyzstan's commitment to the complete renunciation of weapons of mass destruction, reminding of the country's upcoming accession to the Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons in 2025. He also highlighted support for the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty (CTBT) and non-proliferation efforts, stating Kyrgyzstan's intention to actively advocate for a world free of nuclear weapons.

The Minister emphasized the importance of nuclear-weapon-free zones as spaces of trust and for reducing global risks. In this regard, he presented Kyrgyzstan's initiative, as the depositary and one of the founders of the Treaty on a Central Asian Nuclear-Weapon-Free Zone, aimed at strengthening the institutional framework and expanding cooperation with the UN system.
