On February 23, 2026, at the highest leadership level, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Kyrgyzstan, Jeenbek Kulubaev, spoke at a disarmament conference held at the UN in Geneva. This event marked the first participation of the country in such a conference, as reported by the press service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Kyrgyz Republic.

In his speech, the minister emphasized that significant changes in the field of security are being observed on the world stage, manifested in the growing distrust between countries, the weakening of existing treaties, and the rapid development of military technologies that exceed the norms of international law.

Kyrgyzstan expressed serious concern regarding the expiration of the START III treaty and the lack of an effective mechanism to maintain strategic stability and deterrence among nuclear powers. Jeenbek Kulubaev also pointed out the crisis in the security architecture of Europe, as well as the weakening of confidence-building measures and transparency, urging all parties to reconsider their approaches to prevent new major conflicts.

The minister also reaffirmed Kyrgyzstan's unwavering position on the complete renunciation of weapons of mass destruction, noting that in 2025 the country joined the treaty on the prohibition of nuclear weapons. Kulubaev expressed support for the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty (CTBT) regime and non-proliferation efforts, emphasizing that Kyrgyzstan will actively advocate for a world free of nuclear weapons.

Furthermore, the minister highlighted the importance of nuclear-weapon-free zones as areas of trust that contribute to reducing global risks. In this context, he announced Kyrgyzstan's initiative as a depositary and one of the founders of the treaty to establish a Central Asian nuclear-weapon-free zone, aimed at strengthening its institutional foundation and expanding cooperation with the UN system.
