At the parliamentary meeting on February 12, it was proposed to nominate Marlen Mamataliyev for the position of speaker of the Jogorku Kenesh. This proposal came from the parliamentary groups "Eldik" and "Ala-Too".
The need to elect a new speaker arose after the announcement of the resignation of Nurlanbek Turgunbek uulu, who, nevertheless, retains his mandate and will continue to work in parliament.
The initiators of Mamataliyev's candidacy were two deputy groups that are part of the Jogorku Kenesh and are involved in forming the parliamentary majority.
The "Eldik" coalition includes 18 deputies, among whom are notable figures such as Akylbek Tumonbaev, Gulya Kozhokulova, Ulan Primov, Ulukbek Karybek uulu, and others. Meanwhile, "Ala-Too" consists of 15 parliamentarians, including Janara Akayeva, Seidbek Atambaev, Talaybek Masabirov, and Jumabek Salymbekov.
