A meeting took place in Istanbul between Kubanychbek Omuraliev, the Secretary General of the Organization of Turkic States (OTS), and Namazu Hiroyuki, the First Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Japan.

During the meeting, key initiatives and projects being implemented within the framework of the OTS were discussed, as well as issues of interaction with international and regional organizations and states.

Particular attention was paid to opportunities for developing bilateral cooperation between Japan and the OTS. Participants exchanged views on how member and observer states of the OTS can interact with Japan, as well as potential forms of cooperation with third countries within the organization.

Additionally, current issues regarding the situation both in the region and beyond were discussed at the meeting.
It is worth noting that recently several foreign and regional publications have reported on Japan's possible interest in expanding the format of interaction with the OTS, including discussions on various options for participation.

However, there are currently no official confirmations of Japan's intention to join the OTS, and no requests to the organization have been recorded. The current emphasis is on expanding cooperation and dialogue rather than formal membership.
