In addition to accusations of information leakage, the general is suspected of corrupt activities, including accepting bribes and facilitating the appointment of an officer to the position of Minister of Defense. Before his arrest, Zhang Yuxia held the position of Vice Chairman of the Central Military Commission and was a close ally of Xi Jinping; he was also a member of the Politburo of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China, as reported by WSJ.

The article states that a meeting was held the day before, during which the general was accused of attempting to create a coalition to undermine the party's unity. It is also reported that Zhang headed the agency responsible for the development and procurement of military equipment, and, according to WSJ sources, he promised his subordinates promotions in exchange for bribes.

Earlier, the Ministry of Defense of China announced the initiation of an investigation against Zhang Yuxia for "serious violations of discipline and law." The statement also mentioned that another high-ranking military official is under investigation — Chief of the Joint Staff of the Central Military Commission Liu Zhenli.
