Border Service: Citizens of Kazakhstan were informed in advance about the new rules for staying in the Kyrgyz Republic

In response to claims that citizens of Kazakhstan were not informed about the new residency rules, the Border Service of the State National Security Committee of the Kyrgyz Republic stated that such information is inaccurate.

According to the agency, extensive information dissemination was conducted through official websites, social media, and mass media prior to the implementation of the new rules. Relevant data has been published since spring and summer 2025 and continues to be published to this day.

In particular, on December 4, 2025, a briefing was held at the "Ak-Zhol - Road" checkpoint with the participation of representatives from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Internal Affairs, and the Department of Population Registration, where this topic was also discussed. Press releases about the new rules were also sent to Kazakhstani media.

Furthermore, on January 13, 2026, information about the residency rules for Kazakh citizens was discussed on the air of "Birinchi Radio." The agency emphasized that informational materials are placed at all border crossing points along the Kyrgyz-Kazakh border, and videos are shown in passport control areas. Border service employees also inform Kazakh citizens about the duration and conditions of their stay.

At the same time, the border service noted that the responsibility for complying with the migration legislation of the destination country lies with the individuals traveling abroad.

Additionally, the agency mentioned that the new measures are reciprocal, in response to the restrictions that were imposed in Kazakhstan on September 1 regarding citizens of Kyrgyzstan, and are aimed at upholding the principle of reciprocity.

Earlier, Deputy Elvira Surabaldiyeva, during a session of the Jogorku Kenesh, appealed to government agencies to pay attention to the difficulties faced by some citizens of Kazakhstan due to the new rules. She recounted a case where a Kazakh citizen, working as a teacher in Bishkek, was unable to return to Kyrgyzstan after a trip to Almaty and risks losing her job.
