The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Kyrgyz Republic raised the issue of visa restrictions at a meeting with the US Ambassador.

At a meeting with Leslie Viguerie, the U.S. Ambassador, the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Kyrgyzstan, Meler Abakirov, drew attention to the tightening of visa requirements concerning the B-1/B-2 category. The press service of the ministry reported that the Kyrgyz side expressed concern over the introduction of new conditions that complicate travel for citizens and negatively affect trade and economic relations.

During the discussion, the preparation for the "B5+1" forum, scheduled for February 4-5, 2026, in Bishkek, was also addressed. The parties reviewed organizational matters, the event's program, and its significance for the development of regional cooperation.

Additionally, the participants exchanged views on the current state of Kyrgyz-American relations and their prospects.

The U.S. Ambassador noted that the new visa requirements are not directed against any specific country but are part of the overall U.S. immigration policy and compliance with visa legislation.

The parties agreed to further cooperation to find mutually acceptable solutions aimed at improving the visa situation and travel conditions for citizens of both countries.
