The President's Special Representative Discussed Kyrgyzstan's Priorities with Partners Within the Framework of the Five-Year Action Plan for the Development of Mountain Regions

As part of her activities, the special representative of the president on the mountain agenda, Dinara Kemelova, met with key figures from the UN system and the Secretariat of the Mountain Partnership, including the resident coordinator, Antje Grave, and the ambassador of the Republic of Korea, Kim Kwang-dae. 

According to the president's press service, Kemelova presented Kyrgyzstan's priorities in the context of the Decade of Action for Mountain Development (2023–2027). She emphasized the main challenges faced by residents of mountainous areas, including climate change, natural disasters, and difficult geographical conditions. 

During the discussion, particular attention was paid to the main tasks of the Decade, including the updated Roadmap for 2023–2027, which includes measures to improve life in mountainous regions: access to healthcare, clean water, sanitation, energy resources, digital services, as well as other social and economic aspects. 

Kemelova also shared the results of a comprehensive survey covering the geographical, demographic, social, economic, and environmental aspects of mountainous territories in Kyrgyzstan. She presented an initiative to establish the Bishkek Global Center for Mountain Region Resilience, which will serve as an international platform for scientific and technical cooperation and attracting climate financing, urging partners to actively participate in this process. 

As part of the upcoming events in 2026, it was proposed to organize a series of thematic round tables and forums in remote mountainous areas of Kyrgyzstan aimed at enhancing the capacity of local authorities for sustainable development and the protection of mountain ecosystems. 

During the dialogue with the ambassador of the Republic of Korea, Kim Kwang-dae, the prospects for bilateral cooperation in the fields of renewable energy, organic agriculture, tourism, and the modernization of historical and cultural sites in mountainous regions were discussed, as well as the exchange of experiences in the development of these territories with the Republic of Korea.
