The State National Security Committee of the Kyrgyz Republic (GKNB) discovered and halted corrupt activities within the educational system of Naryn. According to the committee's press service, representatives of the city education department were illegally demanding money from the heads of subordinate institutions.
The investigation revealed that the employees of the City Department of Education were imposing contributions ranging from 4,000 to 5,000 soms on school and kindergarten directors. These funds were allegedly intended to bribe an inspector from the Accounts Chamber to conceal financial violations.
As a result of a search in the offices of the suspects, 68,000 soms were seized, and a list of 17 educational organizations indicating the amounts received was compiled. On March 12, the head of the City Department of Education, citizen T.U.S., was detained, and by court order, he was placed in a temporary detention facility during the investigation. A criminal case has been initiated under Article 343, Part 1 of the Criminal Code of the Kyrgyz Republic (extortion of a bribe).
