The former head of the 27th colony has been detained, suspected of receiving a large bribe in foreign currency
A corruption scandal has engulfed Kyrgyzstan, affecting the penitentiary system. On February 23, the press service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs reported the detention of the former head of correctional facility No. 27.
Events began to unfold at the end of 2025. It has been established that in December, a 57-year-old citizen handed over 30 thousand dollars to the head of the colony in an attempt to secure the release of his relative from prison. This money was intended for a "favorable decision" regarding the early conditional release of a convict sentenced for fraud.
A criminal case has been initiated regarding the transfer of money under Article 342 of the Criminal Code of Kyrgyzstan.
Law enforcement agencies detained 40-year-old T.M., suspected of receiving the bribe. He is currently in a temporary detention facility. Authorities need to determine whether this is just an isolated case or if there was an established scheme of "trading freedom" within the institution.
