Fraudster posing as a GKNB employee deceived and took $17,000
In Bishkek, employees of the city police department detained a man who fraudulently obtained $17,000 by posing as an employee of the State Committee for National Security (GKNB). This was reported by the press service of the city police department.

According to law enforcement, a citizen named U.J. contacted them. He reported that an unknown person reached out to him via WhatsApp, introducing himself as a GKNB employee, and offered assistance in releasing a person from a detention center. As a result, the victim transferred the specified amount to the fraudster.

The investigative department of the Lenin district police initiated a criminal case under the article "Fraud" of the Criminal Code of the Kyrgyz Republic. During operational activities, A.T., born in 1988, was detained; he had previous convictions and had been wanted internationally since 2022. The suspect has been placed in a temporary detention facility, and his involvement in other similar crimes is currently being verified.

The Bishkek city police strongly advises citizens to be cautious and not to trust individuals posing as government officials who demand money via messengers or over the phone.
