The court ruled him guilty of illegal enrichment

Irakli Garibashvili, who served as the Prime Minister of Georgia, was found guilty of illegal enrichment and received a five-year prison sentence as a result of a plea agreement with the prosecution. This information was provided by DW, citing data from the General Prosecutor's Office of Georgia.

In addition to imprisonment, Garibashvili is required to pay a fine of 1 million lari (about 319,000 euros). The Prosecutor's Office also noted that he must return to the state the money seized during the search of his apartment, which was obtained illegally. The official statement says that "Irakli Garibashvili admits his guilt and agrees to the terms of the agreement."

Garibashvili led the government of Georgia from 2013 to 2015 and again from February 2021 to January 2024. From 2019 to 2021, he also served as Minister of Defense. After his resignation in early 2024, he became the leader of the "Georgian Dream" party.

In October 2025, he was charged with money laundering of large illegal incomes. According to RBC, the investigation established that while serving as Prime Minister and Minister of Defense, Garibashvili engaged in entrepreneurial activities, receiving illegal income, which he then laundered through fictitious transactions and property registered in the names of his family members.
