Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan continue to be significant trading partners, as stated by the director of the Export Development and Promotion Center "Kyrgyz Export" under the Ministry of Economy and Commerce, Urmat Takirov, in an interview on the radio.
According to Takirov, in 2013, the trade turnover between the two countries amounted to 185 million dollars, highlighting the potential for increasing supplies.
A key aspect of this process has been the resolution of border issues. Currently, the delimitation of the border has been completed, while demarcation is ongoing. This, according to the expert, significantly affects trade, as border closures complicate logistics and lead to increased costs.
After the visit of the President of Tajikistan, Emomali Rahmon, to Bishkek last year, several agreements were signed, and relevant agencies were instructed to intensify their activities by 2025.
"In March, a delegation from Kyrgyzstan visited Dushanbe, where meetings were held with relevant ministries. In April, a business mission took place involving both entrepreneurs and state enterprises. The delegation also visited Khujand and the Sughd region, where discussions were held with local authorities, chambers of commerce, and businessmen. The market needs for food and industrial products were discussed," noted Takirov.
He also added that further negotiations took place in Dushanbe with representatives from the ministries of economy, agriculture, and other agencies. Similar work was conducted in the Khatlon region, where the focus was on analyzing the possibilities for bilateral cooperation.
As part of the preparations for the state visit of President Sadyr Japarov to Tajikistan, changes were made to the work plans. An international textile exhibition was held in Dushanbe, where the Kyrgyz side was provided with a separate pavilion, initially featuring 25 companies.
Later, it was decided to additionally showcase products from Kyrgyzstan's industrial sector, which led to the organization of two exhibitions — textile and industrial. The latter featured trucks, aviation equipment, processed products, coal, glass, cement, construction materials, and food. The industrial exhibition included 50 companies, while the textile exhibition featured 5.
Additionally, a business forum took place during the visit, involving 115 Kyrgyz companies, which comprised about 200 entrepreneurs representing various sectors, including industry, processing, tourism, and services.
According to Takirov, the goal set during the state visits is to increase the volume of bilateral trade to 500 million dollars. Currently, negotiations are underway to establish an intergovernmental council for further deepening cooperation between the two countries.
