French composer Michel Portal has died

At the age of 90, the renowned French composer and multi-instrumentalist Michel Portal has passed away. This was reported by the Agence France-Presse, citing his representative.

The publication notes that Portal was an outstanding representative of modern jazz in France.

Michel Portal was born in 1935 in Bayonne, in the southwest of France, and became one of the most recognizable figures on the French jazz scene. He studied at the Paris Conservatory, where he focused on conducting and classical clarinet. Throughout his musical career, the composer received numerous prestigious awards, including several "Victoires de la Musique" awards.

Since 1975, Portal began working on creating music for films. He was awarded the "César" three times: in 1983 for the film "The Return of Martin Guerre," in 1985 for the film "Storm Riders," and in 1988 for the film "Field of Honor."
