According to the FSB, Korba was recruited by the SBU in August 2025 in Ternopil. At the same time, the agency claims that Polish security forces, who involved Korba's son — a Polish citizen named Lubosh, assisted in the recruitment.
Korba underwent shooting training at a range in Kyiv and was tested on a lie detector, after which he was sent to Russia, as indicated by the FSB. The entire process, according to the intelligence agency, took less than a month, and Korba arrived in the Russian Federation in August 2025.
From a hideout in the Moscow region, he received a pistol and an electronic key to the entrance of the building where Alexeev lived. The FSB also reports that Korba was monitoring the general, receiving monthly payments in cryptocurrency for this, while he claims that the amount was two thousand dollars a month.
“In December, I was instructed to eliminate General GRU Alexeev. I was promised 30 thousand US dollars for completing the task. After the assassination attempt, I was told to head to the airport and board a flight to Dubai, from where there was another ticket to Romania,” Korba said.
Viktor Vasin allegedly rented accommodation for Korba and purchased a travel pass for him, the FSB claims. He is characterized as a supporter of the FBK who participated in Moscow protests and supported "Smart Voting." On social media, Vasin expressed opposition to amendments to the Constitution and voiced support for the leader of the "Left Front," Sergey Udaltsov.
The press release also mentions a third figure — Zinaida Serebritskaya, who, according to the FSB, rented an apartment in the building where Alexeev lived and hid the electronic key to the entrance in a hideout in the Moscow region. After that, she left for Ukraine.
Recently, it was reported that the UAE security forces detained Korba and handed him over to Russia. Later, the Zamoskvoretsky Court of Moscow arrested him on February 7.
Viktor Vasin was also detained in Moscow. There is currently no information about his preventive measure in the city court registry. Serebritskaya, on the other hand, remains at large.
The assassination attempt on Alexeev took place on February 6. The attacker, disguised as a courier, entered the general's apartment and shot at him. Alexeev was hospitalized, and on February 7, according to media reports, he regained consciousness.
Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov commented on the incident, stating that “this terrorist act <…> confirms the intention of the Zelensky regime <…> to disrupt the negotiation process.”
In turn, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrey Sibiga denied these accusations, emphasizing that Kyiv had nothing to do with the assassination attempt on Alexeev. This is also doubted by Western officials, The Washington Post reported.
