As previously mentioned, the winter count of wetland and waterfowl at Issyk-Kul and Orto-Tok was conducted as part of a joint project by the Biosphere Territory Directorate and the Institute of Biology of the National Academy of Sciences of the Kyrgyz Republic.
The eco-demographic monitoring, which is carried out three times a year, provides information on the number and location of birds, which in turn allows conclusions to be drawn about the state of water bodies and the ecosystem as a whole.
Moreover, such counts help identify wintering and migrating birds, which is particularly important for understanding migration routes in Central Asia.
The Ministry of Natural Resources, Ecology, and Technical Supervision emphasizes that these activities play a key role in ensuring biodiversity and the rational use of natural resources.
