Winter count of waterfowl conducted at Issyk-Kul and Orto-Tokoy Reservoir
The count was organized by the biosphere zone administration in collaboration with scientists from the Institute of Biology of the National Academy of Sciences. The observation sites included Lake Issyk-Kul and the Orto-Tokoy Reservoir.
Ecological demographic surveys of birds and their habitats are regularly conducted in the region during winter, spring, and autumn. Collecting information on the number and distribution of birds allows for an assessment of the ecological situation in water bodies, the balance of ecosystems, and serves as an important indicator of changes in nature.
Experts note that such counts enable the study of the composition of wintering and migrating species. The Issyk-Kul region holds a strategically important position on the migration routes of Central Asia, which gives these studies particular scientific significance.
The Ministry of Natural Resources also emphasized that the data obtained from monitoring serves as a scientific basis for developing management decisions and conservation measures, contributing to the preservation of biodiversity and the sustainable use of the country's natural resources.
