Kazakhstan joined the Council of Peace without making the mandatory contribution of one billion dollars, which is stated in the charter as optional. This was reported by the press service of Akorda.
According to the provided information, to become a member of the Council of Peace, only a sovereign decision of the country is required.
“From the moment of joining, the membership of the state in the Council lasts for three years. The voluntary contribution of one billion US dollars specified in the Charter is not a mandatory condition for participation. This is the right of each state. If the contribution is made within the first year, the country will have the opportunity to extend its presence in the Council for an additional term. Kazakhstan joined the Council of Peace without any financial obligations, which fully complies with the norms of the Charter,” the press service emphasized.
It is important to note that on January 22, President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev signed the Charter of the Council of Peace, which was initiated by U.S. President Donald Trump.
