Kazakhstan has become a member of the Council of Peace, established at the initiative of Donald Trump, without the need to make financial contributions, reports the state agency Kazinform, citing the press service of Akorda.

The press service emphasized that only a sovereign decision by the state is required to join the Council of Peace. Membership in the council is for a term of three years. The contribution of 1 billion dollars specified in the charter is voluntary and is not a mandatory condition for participation. This is the right of each member, noted Akorda.

If a country decides to contribute 1 billion dollars within the first year, it will be able to extend its membership in the council for a longer period than three years.

"Kazakhstan joined the Council of Peace without financial infusions, which fully complies with the charter provisions," Akorda added.

On January 22, during the World Economic Forum in Davos, the President of Kazakhstan, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, signed the charter of the Council of Peace. Leaders from 18 countries also participated in the ceremony.

According to Bloomberg, the Trump administration is urging countries seeking a permanent seat on the Council to contribute at least 1 billion dollars.
