The meeting between the Ambassador of the Kyrgyz Republic and the Deputy Assistant Secretary of State of the USA took place – what was discussed?

On January 14, the Ambassador of Kyrgyzstan to the United States, Aibek Moldogaziev, held an important meeting with John Pommershime, the Deputy Assistant Secretary of State responsible for Central and South Asia.
According to information provided by the diplomatic mission, the conversation addressed current issues in Kyrgyz-American relations. The main focus was on strengthening political dialogue, organizing joint events, and developing trade and economic ties. In particular, the parties emphasized the upcoming B5+1 business forum, which will take place in Bishkek on February 4-5.
Additionally, during the meeting, new requirements introduced by the USA for obtaining B-1/B-2 visas were discussed, as well as the temporary suspension of immigration visa issuance to citizens of Kyrgyzstan.
Moldogaziev expressed concern that these restrictions could negatively impact mutual travel between citizens of the two countries, which in turn could lead to a decrease in business and tourist contacts. The ambassador suggested considering possible solutions to address these issues.
Deputy Assistant Pommershime noted that these measures were taken in the context of current American policy to combat illegal migration; however, he emphasized the USA's readiness for further dialogue and cooperation.
