- Power plants operating on renewable energy sources (RES) may gain the right to set tariffs in foreign currency. This initiative is included in the draft law from the Ministry of Energy, which has already been incorporated into the calendar plan of the Jogorku Kenesh for January 2026.

According to the proposed provision, the upper limit of the tariff for RES power plants may be established in foreign currency within the framework of an investment agreement or a public-private partnership contract.

This pertains to the tariff at which the state energy company purchases electricity from facilities operating on RES. According to the current version of the legislation, this tariff is 4.42 soms per kilowatt-hour.
