The importance of roads for the country cannot be overstated: they not only connect regions but also contribute to economic development and improve access to services, supporting business and the tourism sector. Sustainable development of road infrastructure plays a key role in enhancing the quality of life for citizens.
Unfortunately, during the period of independence, Kyrgyzstan experienced negative dynamics in the construction and improvement of road networks — only 200–300 km of new and repaired roads were laid each year.
However, since 2020, the situation has begun to change. Road construction in the country has developed much faster, with the mileage of new projects increasing each year. Since 2021, the government has been actively investing in large projects in this area.
The pace of road construction has sharply increased:
2021 — 175 km,
2022 — 488 km,
2023 — 673 km,
2024 — 802 km,
2025 — a record 1545 km.
As a result, over 3000 km of roads have been built and repaired in five years, of which more than 2400 km are asphalted. Thus, after 2020, there has been a rapid growth and development of the road sector.
The reasons for this success include, first, a significant increase in funding from both the national budget and investors, making investments in road infrastructure more attractive. Second, important strategic projects such as North-South and alternative routes are being implemented. Third, active reconstruction of international transport corridors is underway. Recent years have focused on strategic projects.
Today, it can be confidently stated that the road sector has become one of the most dynamically developing segments of the economy.
As President Sadyr Japarov emphasizes, the construction of quality roads contributes not only to improved communication but also to the development of trade, tourism, and the overall standard of living for the population.
“The construction and repair of new roads is not just about creating infrastructure. It is an opportunity to strengthen connections between people and lay the foundations for the future development of our state,” he noted.

From 2022 to 2024, 750 units of equipment for road construction, including dump trucks, excavators, and graders, were purchased from the national budget. This equipment has been distributed across regions, which has facilitated the acceleration of road work and reduced dependence on external contractors.
