According to the National Statistical Committee, the foreign trade turnover of Kyrgyzstan in January 2026 amounted to $1 billion 52.9 million. This figure is 2 percent higher than in January 2025.

Decrease in Export Volumes

At the beginning of 2026, Kyrgyzstan once again faced a sharp decline in export volumes, which decreased by 20.3 percent, totaling only $126.8 million.
In contrast, imports increased by 6.1 percent, reaching $926.1 million.
The country continues to be heavily dependent on imports, which account for 88 percent of the total trade turnover.

Reasons for the Decline in Exports

Since the beginning of 2026, the government of Kyrgyzstan has reintroduced restrictions on the export of certain goods, such as scrap metal, waste paper, and agricultural animals.

Additionally, changes in trade regulations in Russia have created difficulties for Kyrgyz exporters, including tailors. However, the country's authorities reported in February that some of the issues had been partially resolved.

Trade with the EAEU

Mutual trade with the member states of the Eurasian Economic Union shows more positive results. In January 2026, trade turnover with the EAEU amounted to $396.8 million, which is 11.3 percent higher than the figure for January 2024. Nevertheless, there is also an imbalance here:
In the overall trade turnover of Kyrgyzstan, the EAEU countries account for 37.7 percent, in exports — 45.4 percent, and in imports — 36.6 percent.

The largest share of mutual trade for the republic is with Russia (68.6 percent) and Kazakhstan (29 percent).
