The Ministry of Energy clarified the current tariff policy
For a long time, electricity tariffs in the country remained below the actual cost price. As a result, the difference had to be compensated using state funds, which created financial difficulties for the energy sector. This was stated by the Ministry of Energy.
The agency shared information about the current tariff policy. According to them, significant changes have been observed in the country's energy sector in recent years. Particularly pronounced changes became noticeable after the revision of the tariff policy in 2025, which contributed to the acceleration of infrastructure modernization and technical base processes.
“Electric energy today is not just a service, but the foundation of the state's economic security. Recently, special attention has been paid to the renewal of electrical networks. In the regions, substations have been modernized, outdated transformers replaced, and automated management systems are being implemented to reduce the frequency of emergency shutdowns. This has significantly increased the reliability of electricity supply in several areas. In addition, to reduce technical losses, modern meters are actively being installed, and digital control mechanisms are being developed. According to experts, these measures not only contribute to more rational electricity consumption but also ensure the transparency of the entire system's operation,” emphasized the Ministry of Energy.
As reported by the National Electric Network of Kyrgyzstan, significant funds were allocated last year for the renewal of production equipment and major repairs. The reconstruction of several strategically important facilities has improved the reliability of electricity production and reduced the number of emergency situations.
These achievements became possible due to the revision of the tariff policy.
The ministry also noted that from May 1, 2025, tariffs for the population increased from 1.11 soms to 1.37 soms per kWh, which is an increase of 23.8%. This increase did not create a significant burden on family budgets but provided additional resources for the modernization of the sector.
“Even such a small increase allowed the energy sector to implement large-scale investment and technical projects,” the agency added.
