Kyrgyzstan has joined the GOST for potato chips, introduced for the first time in Russia
Starting from April 1, 2026, a new GOST for potato chips will come into effect in Russia. It has been reported that six countries from the post-Soviet space, including Kyrgyzstan, have joined this standard, as stated by the press service of Rosstandart.
Despite the fact that potato chips are a popular product, until now there has been no single document regulating their production, the press release emphasized.

The new interstate standard will apply to chips made from natural potatoes or their processed products, which can be prepared either with or without oil, and may contain additives or be additive-free. Chips must be packaged in airtight consumer packaging and are intended for immediate consumption.

The GOST will define parameters such as appearance, smell, taste, and permissible fat and salt content in the product.

Chips produced in accordance with the new standard must have a crispy texture and characteristic taste, as well as an aroma that will depend on the additives used. An important requirement is that the fat content in chips made from natural potatoes must not exceed 45%, while for chips based on processed potatoes, this figure is no more than 35%.

The countries that have joined the GOST for chips include Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan.
