At a meeting of the Committee of the Jogorku Kenesh on industrial policy, transport, and energy, Energy Minister Taalaibek Ibraev announced Kyrgyzstan's plans to completely eliminate the electricity shortage by 2028.

Currently, the country is facing a deficit estimated at about 4 billion kilowatt-hours per year.

Ibraev emphasized that new generation capacities amounting to approximately 400–500 megawatts will be put into operation this year.

At present, the electricity deficit is being met through imports. The minister noted that with a consumption level of 55 million kilowatt-hours per day, nearly half of the electricity needs to be purchased from abroad.

It is also worth noting that forecasts indicate that by April 1, the water level in the Toktogul Reservoir will reach 6.8 billion cubic meters.
