In the Chuy region, preparations for the irrigation season of 2026 are actively underway. This was reported by the first deputy representative of the president in the region, Sanjar Zhantaev, at a board meeting dedicated to the socio-economic development of the region.

According to Zhantaev's data, there are 269 reservoirs in the Chuy region with a design capacity of 253.145 million cubic meters, of which 168.81 million cubic meters of water have been accumulated. In 2026, a sowing campaign is planned on an area of 418,764 hectares, of which 269,698 hectares are irrigated lands. For irrigation, the supply of 850 million cubic meters of water is planned, which is 36% higher than the corresponding indicator for 2025.

For the repair and restoration of irrigation facilities, 120 million soms have been allocated from the state budget. These funds will be used for the repair of 231.5 km of canals, mechanical cleaning of 609 km, restoration of 579 hydraulic structures, maintenance of 516 water measurement posts, as well as for the repair of one pumping station and manual cleaning of 740 km of inter-farm canals.

Zhantaev also noted that in 2025, drip and sprinkler irrigation systems were implemented on more than 10,000 hectares, of which 411 hectares were installed by the state, and 9,942 hectares by farmers. To prepare for irrigation in 2026, it is planned to attract 13 units of equipment from the Water Management Service and about 30 units from local rural administrations.

As part of the "Chuy Agro" program, 6 major projects and 9 activities aimed at improving irrigation have been developed. These initiatives include the inventory of systems, cleaning of canals using innovative polymers, ensuring water supply to agricultural lands, cancellation of contracts with water users, organization of irrigation and soil loosening, explanatory work with farmers, training in new water-saving technologies, implementation of an electronic queue for irrigation, and construction of a daily regulating reservoir in the Issyk-Ata district.

Zhantaev emphasized that all these measures are aimed at the effective use of water resources and increasing crop yields in the region.
