According to the Ministry of Water Resources, Agriculture, and Processing Industry of the Kyrgyz Republic, breeding livestock is an important direction of the country's agricultural policy. Due to the high cost of breeding animals, the ministry recommends that farmers consider switching to artificial insemination as a more cost-effective way to obtain livestock than purchasing them.
The ministry's press service reported that the price of a breeding cow of the "Simmental" breed is currently about 350,000 soms, while a weekly calf costs approximately 60,000 soms. Such prices make livestock acquisition difficult for many farms. As an alternative, the government provides free breeding semen through local specialists. The insemination service costs only 1,000 soms, allowing livestock breeders to obtain breeding offspring with minimal expenses and significantly increase the profitability of their business.
Currently, farmers are offered semen from four high-yield breeds that are well adapted to the climatic conditions of Kyrgyzstan: Holstein-Friesian, Simmental, Swiss, and Aberdeen-Angus. These breeds have proven to be leaders in meat and milk production, as well as in endurance under local conditions.
The use of artificial insemination not only increases the productivity of individual farms but also contributes to the sustainable development of the entire livestock sector in the country. The ministry urges farmers to consult regional specialists for advice and professional support in improving the breeding qualities of their herds.
