In Kyrgyzstan, an ambitious project is launching to revise the methods of managing water resources. Abdibai Zhailoobaev, Deputy Head of the Water Resources Service, reported at a meeting in the Jogorku Kenesh that the Institute of Water Problems and Hydropower of the National Academy of Sciences of the Kyrgyz Republic is starting to develop a comprehensive forecast of the state of the country's water resources for the next fifty years.

As part of this project, scientists will conduct a thorough analysis of all water basins in the republic. The result of their work will be a scientifically justified scenario that will take into account climate changes and allow for the planning of water resource distribution for decades to come. In addition, the agency will initiate a complete inventory of water sources: all wells and underground horizons will be entered into a centralized digital database for strict control and accounting.

Zhailoobaev discussed these plans with the Deputy Speaker of Parliament Chyngyz Azhibaev, who raised important issues related to irrigation that require urgent solutions, especially in border areas.

Azhibaev emphasized the problems faced by farmers in the Batken region. He noted that there is an acute shortage of irrigation water in the Leilek district and called for the urgent restoration of water supply systems in the villages of Baul and Kok-Tash, stressing that the state of irrigation networks affects food security and the standard of living of local residents.
