The trial phase of the launch will begin in the fourth quarter of 2026 and will last until the second quarter of 2027.
During this time, a platform for the digital som will be developed, and tests of P2P transfer systems operating without intermediaries will be conducted.
Funding for this initiative will be provided by the National Bank.
Earlier, Melis Turgunbaev, the head of the National Bank of Kyrgyzstan, emphasized the need to legally establish the digital som as the third form of national currency, alongside cash and non-cash money. This will enable both individuals and legal entities to make transfers between cash and digital currency.
