The number of Chinese greenfield projects is increasing in the EAEU countries, while expansion deals are decreasing, - research
Analysts highlight four main trends in the dynamics of Chinese FDI in the countries of this region. One of them is the increase in the share of greenfield investments.
From 2016 to mid-2025, the share of projects created from scratch rose from 43% to 60%. At the same time, the percentage of deals for acquiring existing assets, including the expansion of existing ones, decreased from 54% to 37%.
“This indicates a long-term trend of Chinese companies creating new production capacities in sectors such as industry, energy, and transportation in the countries of the Eurasian region,” researchers note.
