State Antimonopoly Service: Catering establishments will be checked for portion weights and compliance with trade regulations

Starting January 1, 2026, a new decree from the Cabinet of Ministers will come into effect, prohibiting catering establishments from charging service fees. In this regard, the antimonopoly service plans to strengthen its oversight of such institutions. This was announced by the director of the State Antimonopoly Service, Zhenaly Orozbaev, in an interview with Tazabek.

As Orozbaev noted, within the framework of the Consumer Rights Protection Law, metrological control is already being implemented. The agency has prepared an inspection plan, according to which all catering establishments will undergo scheduled inspections.

“If violations of the declared parameters are found during the inspection, such establishments will face penalties in accordance with current legislation, including fines for non-compliance with trade rules,” he emphasized.

The head of the State Antimonopoly Service also noted that special attention will be paid to the compliance of the actual weight of dishes with the declared data. “For example, if the documents state 300 grams of dough and 400 grams of filling, but the actual weight is less, there are also separate fines for this,” he added.

In addition to scheduled inspections, the State Antimonopoly Service will have the ability to conduct unscheduled activities in case of complaints from consumers. In such situations, inspections may be carried out without prior notice.

The agency emphasized that the main goal of the new decree is to ensure transparency in pricing so that consumers know what they are paying for and why. The enforcement of the norms of this decree will be carried out by the State Antimonopoly Service.
