In the Beşiktaş district of Istanbul, gunfire occurred near the building of the Israeli Consulate, as reported by the publication Haberturk.
According to reports from correspondents, one of the attackers was killed, while two others were injured. Two police officers were also injured.
Turkey's Interior Minister Mustafa Çiftçi confirmed that the identities of the shooters have been established.
“The identities of the terrorists have been established. It has been determined that one of them, who arrived in Istanbul from Izmit in a rented car, is connected to an organization that uses religion for its purposes; and that one of the two terrorists, who are brothers, has a criminal record for drug-related offenses,” Çiftçi said. He is quoted by Haberturk.
Istanbul Governor Davut Gül stated that “there had been no activity at the consulate for about two and a half years.”
