During the investigation, it was revealed that on the night of March 28, law enforcement officers detained a man who was attempting to set up an improvised explosive device. He had a five-liter canister of flammable substance and a pyrotechnic element, likely intended for detonation.
The suspect was caught in the act while trying to ignite the device, when he was noticed by a police patrol.
According to law enforcement agencies, the detained individual did not act alone — his accomplice was supposed to film the incident, but managed to escape. The detainee claims he was recruited through the social network Snapchat with a promise of a reward of 600 euros.
Later, on March 29, the French prosecutor's office reported the detention of two more suspects and the extension of the detention period for the first arrested individual.
