Minister Katz described Tangsiri as the "direct culprit" in organizing a terrorist attack aimed at mining and blocking the Strait of Hormuz, which posed a threat to maritime traffic.
According to information from the Israeli armed forces, the strike was carried out during a meeting of high-ranking IRGC officers at the port of Bandar Abbas in Iran.
Katz also noted that this operation serves as a "message" to the IRGC. "The Israeli army will pursue you and eliminate you one by one," he added.
Following the onset of the conflict with Iran, which began on February 28, Tehran took measures to block the Strait of Hormuz by attacking vessels passing through it. Since the start of hostilities, at least 22 ships have been attacked, and around 3,200 vessels have been held hostage in the Persian Gulf, fearing to cross the Strait of Hormuz. The U.S. President issued an ultimatum to Iran demanding the unblocking of this route. On March 25, Tehran announced the restoration of passage for "non-hostile" vessels.
The Strait of Hormuz is of strategic importance, connecting the Persian Gulf to the ocean and serving as a key route for transporting raw materials from the Middle East: about 35% of the world's oil and nearly 20% of liquefied natural gas pass through it.
