The significance of Iran's closure of the Strait of Hormuz

The conflict between the U.S. and Israel with Iran has affected the Strait of Hormuz, critically important for global energy, causing a sharp rise in oil prices.

On Monday, the commander of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps announced the "closure" of the strait, emphasizing that any vessel attempting to pass through it would be "set on fire".

On Tuesday, oil prices are rising for the third consecutive day, with Brent crude futures approaching $80 per barrel. There are concerns that the price could reach $100 in the coming days if the conflict continues.

The Strait of Hormuz connects Iran and Oman and is one of the key routes for global oil supplies, through which about 20% of all shipments pass.

Any disruptions in this area could lead to even higher oil prices and raise concerns about further escalation of the conflict.

According to U.S. data, most of the oil transported through Hormuz is headed for Asia, where China, India, Japan, and South Korea account for nearly 70% of all supplies.

In addition to oil, there is a shortage of aviation fuel and liquefied natural gas supplies.

About 30% of aviation fuel supplies to Europe pass through this strait, while one-fifth of the world's liquefied natural gas also depends on this waterway.

Among the countries from which departure has been mandated are Bahrain, Egypt, Iran, Iraq, Israel, the occupied West Bank, the Gaza Strip, Jordan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Syria, the UAE, and Yemen.

Trump criticized the British Prime Minister for refusing to support the war with Iran.

President Trump sharply criticized British Prime Minister Starmer for his refusal to support Washington's military intervention in Iran, stating that the "special relationship" between the countries is now under threat.

"He didn't provide any help... I never thought this could happen. I never thought this was possible from the UK," Trump said about Starmer.

The President added that relations between the two countries have changed drastically.

"In fact, it's a completely different world. Relations with your country are now completely different from what they were before."

Trump emphasized that he never expected that an alliance considered "the strongest" would come under such pressure.

He also suggested that Washington is no longer dependent on London for matters of waging wars in the Middle East.

"It won't matter, but [Starmer] should have provided help... he was obligated to," Trump added.

Australia urges citizens not to panic over the fuel situation.

The Australian Minister for Energy urged Australians not to panic and hoard fuel amid rising concerns about supply disruptions due to the war between the U.S. and Israel.

Chris Bowen noted that the country's gasoline reserves stand at 36 days, diesel fuel at 34 days, and aviation fuel at 32 days, which is the highest level in the last ten years.

"There is no need for panic buying; it will only exacerbate the situation," he added.

Oil prices are rising again for the third consecutive day due to concerns that attacks in the Middle East could disrupt supply routes. In response, Iran is attacking energy infrastructure in Gulf countries and tankers passing through the Strait of Hormuz.
