At the Bushehr nuclear power plant, located in the southwestern part of Iran, attacks have also occurred previously: on the evening of March 17, a shell fell on the station's territory, but this did not cause any radiation leaks or other damage. The head of the IAEA, Rafael Grossi, called for "maximum restraint" from all parties involved to avoid a potential nuclear disaster.
The Russian state corporation "Rosatom" responded to the situation on March 18, characterizing the incident as "a flagrant disregard for the fundamental principles of international security." The head of "Rosatom," Alexey Likhachev, reported that about 480 Russian specialists are currently working at the Bushehr nuclear power plant. Since the beginning of the conflict between the USA, Israel, and Iran, the state corporation has already conducted two evacuations of personnel and is preparing for a third.
The Bushehr nuclear power plant became Iran's first nuclear power station. Construction began with the help of the German company Siemens back in 1975.
