Concrete pouring has begun at the construction site of the nuclear power plant in the Jizzakh region of Uzbekistan.

According to information from Podrobno.uz, on March 24 of this year, builders started pouring the foundation for the small-capacity reactor RITM-200N. This event was marked by the signing of a strategic roadmap and an updated contract between the Uzatom agency and the Russian state corporation Rosatom in Tashkent.

At this stage, the work involves creating a concrete preparation volume of about 900 cubic meters. Specialists are forming the foundation for the reactor, ensuring its waterproofing and grounding. This stage is expected to be completed in April.

According to media reports, the conducted examination confirmed that the site meets all technical standards, eliminating risks associated with tectonic activity. The planned station in the Jizzakh region will feature a unique combined structure. The project includes two powerful energy blocks based on VVER-1000 reactors (generation 3+) and two blocks with RITM-200N reactors, each with a capacity of 55 MW. This configuration will allow not only to provide base load but also to effectively manage capacities to meet peak energy system demands.

Upon reaching its design capacity, the nuclear power plant will be able to generate about 15.4 billion kWh per year, which will account for more than 15% of the total electricity consumption in the country. In addition to energy aspects, the signed roadmap also includes social initiatives, such as training highly qualified personnel and developing infrastructure for the future city of nuclear workers. The construction of the station in the Farish district will become the largest energy project in the history of independent Uzbekistan, with an expected lifespan of at least 60 years.

Earlier, the Russian state corporation Rosatom and the Agency for Atomic Energy of Uzbekistan signed a memorandum of cooperation in the field of working with radioactive waste and decommissioning nuclear and radiation hazardous facilities.
