
The UK Minister for the Indo-Pacific, Seema Malhotra
Seema Malhotra, the UK Minister for the Indo-Pacific, will visit Mongolia from March 23 to 25 to participate in a political roundtable dedicated to cooperation between the two countries. The event will be chaired by Seema Malhotra and the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Mongolia, Amartuvshin Gombosuren, as reported by MiddleAsianNews.
The agenda of the roundtable includes discussions on bilateral relations, economy, trade, investments, and the geopolitical situation, as well as the development of further steps in these areas.
As part of her visit, Minister Malhotra will also visit the Oyu Tolgoi mine, where she will discuss cooperation on the metro construction project in Ulaanbaatar. Additionally, she will meet with alumni of the Chevening program, representatives of NGOs, and women in leadership positions in politics and business.
The UK is actively working to enhance the qualifications of English language teachers in Mongolia. Approximately 740 teachers from remote aimags have already participated in this project, reaching over 140,000 students. Ms. Malhotra plans to meet with the teachers and students involved in this project, as well as with representatives from the Ministry of Education and UNICEF, who are participating in its implementation.
Expressing her thoughts on the visit, Seema Malhotra noted: "Mongolia is a key democratic partner for the UK. Sixty years ago, we became the first Western country to establish diplomatic relations with Mongolia, and I am pleased to be here to discuss ways to strengthen our partnership and create a safer and more prosperous future for our countries. We have made significant progress, including training English language teachers who reach over 147,000 students in Mongolia, and collaborating on the implementation of advanced British technologies in projects such as the first metro in Ulaanbaatar."
Seema Malhotra is a British politician of Indian descent, representing the Cooperative Party and elected to Parliament from the Labour Party. She is the MP for Feltham and Heston and serves as Shadow Chief Secretary to the Treasury in Jeremy Corbyn's shadow cabinet.
Seema Malhotra was born on August 7, 1972, in London. She was educated at the University of Warwick and later obtained a master's degree in business and information studies from Aston University. She previously worked as a consultant at Accenture and PricewaterhouseCoopers. She is the founder and head of the Fabian Women’s Network and was the chair of the youth organization of the Fabian Society - Young Fabians.
