As reported by Reuters, Trump had previously mentioned the possibility of "winding down" the conflict; however, due to the escalation of the situation, he issued a new ultimatum to Iran. The source notes that Iran has carried out attacks and made threats, leading to significant disruptions in shipping through the Strait of Hormuz, which in turn has created risks for the global energy balance.

The Strait of Hormuz is a crucial transport corridor for the global energy market, through which about 20% of all oil and liquefied natural gas supplies pass. In light of the current crisis, gas prices in Europe rose significantly last week.

According to statements from Iran, the strait is open for navigation, but only for vessels from countries that are not considered their adversaries. Tehran also links the improvement of the situation to the cessation of attacks from the U.S. and Israel.

In response to these events, Israel announced its intention to increase its strikes against Iran. Earlier, Reuters reported that as a result of missile attacks from Iran, areas in the southern Israeli cities of Dimona and Arad were affected, with injuries reported among the population. Israeli military officials acknowledged that some of the missiles were not intercepted.

Additionally, a secret Israeli nuclear reactor is located near Dimona, and both Dimona and Arad are close to military facilities, including the Nevatim airbase.
