According to information from Reuters and the U.S. State Department, the visa bond program will apply to citizens of 50 countries applying for B1 and B2 tourist and business visas. The bond is refunded to those who leave the country on time or do not use the visa.

In addition to the existing 38 countries, 12 more will be added: Cambodia, Ethiopia, Georgia, Grenada, Lesotho, Mauritius, Mongolia, Mozambique, Nicaragua, Papua New Guinea, Seychelles, and Tunisia. The State Department emphasizes that most countries on this list are African, and it may be expanded based on an assessment of migration risks.

According to the U.S., the program has demonstrated its effectiveness: about 97% of foreign nationals who received visas with a bond returned to their home countries within the stipulated time. The agency also claims that this measure saves hundreds of millions of dollars by reducing expenses related to the deportation of those who violate visa regulations.

The introduction of the visa bond has become part of the stricter immigration policy of the Donald Trump administration. As reported by Reuters, U.S. authorities had previously tightened entry restrictions for citizens of certain countries and took measures against visa violations.
