Mirziyoyev approved the tightening of responsibility for cybercrime and organized crime

// Press service of the President of Uzbekistan
At the meeting, alarming statistical data was presented: the number of reports of cybercrime has increased 48 times over the past six years. According to the information from the press service of the president, in 2022, 82% of fraud cases and 76% of thefts were committed in the digital space, resulting in damages exceeding 2 trillion sums for individuals and legal entities.

Among the proposed initiatives is the introduction of criminal and administrative liability for citizens whose electronic payment means, SIM cards, crypto wallets, and accounts were used in cybercrimes. Legal entities are expected to face administrative liability for non-compliance with cybersecurity standards, regardless of the consequences. Additionally, banks and payment systems will be required to compensate clients who suffered due to deficiencies in their systems, which has already affected 3,025 clients of three banks for a total of 17 billion sums.

In the area of organized crime, it is proposed to implement criminal liability for the creation and financing of criminal groups, to tighten penalties for hooliganism, and to introduce criminal liability for the illegal organization of sporting events involving youth.
