Turkey intercepted an Iranian missile in its airspace. The President of Iran denied the launch.
Recep Tayyip Erdoğan commented on the situation, emphasizing:
“Despite our sincere warnings, provocative actions that threaten our friendship continue. We should not take risks by creating deep wounds in the hearts of our people and violating centuries-old traditions of good neighborliness. I urge the cessation of this erroneous practice,” he noted.
In response to the incident, the Iranian ambassador was summoned to the Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs for explanations.
Later, a phone conversation took place between Erdoğan and Iranian President Pezeshkian, during which the Turkish leader stated that any violations of airspace are unacceptable, and Turkey will take all necessary measures. Pezeshkian, on the other hand, rejected claims of missile launches from Iranian territory and proposed the establishment of a joint commission to investigate the incident.
On February 28, Israel and the U.S. carried out strikes against Iran, after which Donald Trump announced intentions to eliminate the nuclear program of the Islamic Republic.
Iran responded with strikes on U.S. and Israeli targets in various countries in the Middle East, including Bahrain, Qatar, Kuwait, Abu Dhabi, Dubai, and Riyadh.
As a result of the American-Israeli operation, the Supreme Leader of Iran, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, was killed, and his wife, Mansure Khodjasteh, died from her injuries.
Trump also stated that the military operation in Iran would last about four weeks. A jihad against the U.S. and Israel was declared in Iran, with negotiations excluded.
The conflict in the Middle East has global consequences, including for Kyrgyzstan, where thousands of tourists are stranded in the UAE. Contact information for embassies for Kyrgyz citizens abroad can be found here.
