In a phone conversation with Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian stated that his country is not responsible for the recent airstrike on Nakhchivan. He added that the incident will be thoroughly investigated, as reported by the press service of the Azerbaijani leader.

Additionally, Pezeshkian expressed gratitude to Aliyev for his condolences regarding the death of Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and for the intention to provide humanitarian aid to Iran. In response, the Azerbaijani president also expressed condolences over the tragic events in the Middle East that claimed the lives of many Iranians.

On March 5, Iranian drones attacked the airport area and neighborhoods near a school in the suburbs of Nakhchivan, resulting in injuries to four people. Aliyev classified this act as terrorism. Later, the State Security Service of Azerbaijan reported that the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps planned to carry out a series of terrorist acts on the territory of the country, which led to Baku's decision to completely withdraw its diplomatic corps from Iran.

The Iranian authorities categorically denied any involvement in this attack. Masoud Pezeshkian characterized such accusations as rumors and a "conspiracy of enemies."
