The war from the Middle East has spread to the CIS. Baku accused Tehran of a drone attack

The Iranian ambassador was summoned to the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry

According to information provided by the Azerbaijani Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Iranian drones struck in the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic, which borders Iran. One of the drones fell on an airport building, while another landed near a school in the village of Shakerabad. As a result of the incident, two people were injured, DW sources report.

In response to these events, the Iranian ambassador to Azerbaijan, Mojtaba Demirchilu, was summoned to the ministry. This was confirmed by a statement published on Thursday, March 5.

Azerbaijani authorities expressed concern over the "violation of international law" and the rising tensions in the region. The Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry demanded an immediate explanation from Iran regarding the situation, as well as a thorough investigation and measures to prevent future attacks. They emphasized that Azerbaijan reserves the right to take retaliatory actions.

According to sources from the Minval publication, the attacks were carried out using Shahed-136 drones. Videos taken by eyewitnesses show black smoke rising above the airport.

Nakhchivan International Airport is located about 10 kilometers from the border with Iran.

It is important to note that on February 28, the United States and Israel began striking Iran, announcing their intention to destroy its nuclear program. U.S. President Donald Trump urged Iranian military personnel to lay down their arms and encouraged the country's population to "take their fate into their own hands."

According to Iranian state media, more than 1,000 people were killed in the attacks in Iran, including the country's supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and several high-ranking military officials. In response, Iran attacked Israel and several Persian Gulf countries, where casualties were also reported. Tehran claims that its actions are directed against U.S. military bases in the region, not against Arab countries. On March 4, reports emerged of a missile being intercepted that was heading from Iran towards Turkey.
