Annalena Baerbock Launches Global Campaign "As a Woman"
For many years, the phrases "like a woman" and "like a girl" have been used in a negative context, associated with weakness or certain social roles. However, the facts show that women demonstrate strength and are capable of successfully handling leadership tasks while overcoming significant barriers that men do not face, the UN stated.
The organization also noted: "When women participate in peace processes, the outcomes are more sustainable. Economic indicators improve when women are active in the economy. Society becomes more peaceful and prosperous when women and girls have equal rights with men and boys."
The #LikeAWoman campaign aims to change traditional narratives by presenting stories of women heroes from various fields and regions who overcome obstacles. Women from conflict zones, scientific laboratories, sports arenas, and space show what it means to live, create, and succeed on their own terms.
In the lead-up to International Women's Day and during the 70th session of the Commission on the Status of Women, which will take place in New York from March 9 to 19, the President of the General Assembly will share photos of successful women on her Instagram, accompanied by inspiring quotes.
Examples of quotes that will be featured include: "I was told that women don't belong in the news department. So I took the editor-in-chief's chair," and "I was told that I couldn't reach for the stars. So I flew to space," the UN indicated.
It is worth noting that Annalena Baerbock is the fifth woman in history to hold the position of President of the UN General Assembly and the first woman from Western Europe to hold this position. She previously served as Germany's Minister of Foreign Affairs.
