Escalation in the Middle East: Strikes on Iran, Attacks on US Bases, and Threats to the Global Economy
The escalation of the conflict surrounding Iran is gaining momentum: Tehran is launching strikes using missiles and drones against Arab states where US military bases are located. In response, Israel and the US are attacking Iranian facilities, leading to disruptions in oil supplies and a decline in global financial markets. Amid rising tensions, Washington has initiated measures to protect shipping in the Strait of Hormuz and ordered the evacuation of personnel from several countries in the region. Key events are covered by Reuters.

On February 28, Israel and the US carried out strikes on Iran. Donald Trump announced the intention to destroy the nuclear program of the Islamic Republic.

In response, Iran began attacking the territory of Israel and other Middle Eastern countries where US facilities and military bases are located. Strikes were carried out against Bahrain, Qatar, Kuwait, Abu Dhabi, and Dubai (UAE), as well as Riyadh (Saudi Arabia).

As a result of the US-Israeli attacks, the supreme leader of Iran, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, was killed. Shortly after, his wife, Mansoureh Khojasteh, also died from her injuries sustained in the attack.

Trump noted that the military operation in Iran would last about four weeks. Iran declared jihad against the US and Israel, stating that there would be no negotiations.

The conflict in the Middle East is affecting the entire world, including Kyrgyzstan. As a result of the conflict, thousands of tourists are stranded in the UAE. A list of phone numbers for embassies and consulates for Kyrgyz citizens abroad is available here.
