The Indian boxing team, consisting of 20 athletes, will be led by Olympic medalist Lovlina Borgohain and two-time world champion Nikhat Zareen at the Asian Championship, which will take place in Mongolia from March 28 to April 11.
The formation of the team was completed after a month of intensive evaluation, during which athletes joined the training camp in Patiala following the National Championship in January.
According to the selection rules, finalists of the Asian Boxing Championships in approved weight categories will receive direct berths to the Commonwealth Games and the Asian Games.
This continental championship plays a huge role, providing an opportunity not only to win medals but also to become a key stage in the qualification for upcoming multi-sport events.
Lovlina (75 kg), who recently won gold at the Boxam Elite in Spain, will lead the women's team, which will also feature Preeti (54 kg), Arundhati Choudhary (70 kg), and Priya (60 kg), all of whom also won gold at the championship in Spain and are showing excellent results.
Additionally, they will be joined by reigning world champions Minakshi (48 kg) and Jasmine (57 kg).
