Mexican drug lord El Mencho buried in a golden coffin
The hearse carrying the body of El Mencho, adorned with red roses shaped like a rooster, symbolizing his passion for cockfighting, arrived at the cemetery around noon. The farewell ceremony was attended by his close ones and relatives, who accompanied the coffin until the very end.
El Mencho, who was fatally wounded on February 22 during a federal operation in Tapalpa, left behind a wave of violence in Jalisco and other parts of the country as his followers began riots in response to his death.
It is worth noting that this cemetery is also the final resting place of the family of Rafael Caro Quintero, who was the founder of the Guadalajara cartel.
The body of El Mencho was handed over to his family by the Attorney General's Office of Mexico after all necessary procedures were completed and kinship was confirmed through genetic testing.
