
President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev presented 44 new construction and investment projects in the Surkhandarya region, with a total value of $7.1 billion. The launch ceremony, held on February 26, took place during the head of state’s visit to this region, according to the press service. Of the total number of projects, 31, worth about $6.3 billion, are aimed at the construction of residential and other facilities. Foreign investors are actively participating in the implementation of these initiatives, including companies from Austria, Germany, the Netherlands, China, India, the United Arab Emirates, Russia, and Afghanistan.
The remaining 13 projects, totaling over $741 million, cover various sectors of the economy, including mining, geology, light and food industries, as well as services and tourism. These initiatives demonstrate the cooperation of local entrepreneurs with foreign investors from China, Turkey, India, Pakistan, Russia, and Tajikistan.
According to regional authorities, the implementation of these projects will create about 18,000 new jobs, allow for the production of industrial goods worth 82 trillion soums ($6.7 billion), and increase exports of goods to $1.4 billion.
During the ceremony, it was noted that there has been active development of entrepreneurial activity in Surkhandarya recently, and investor interest in this region continues to grow.
Last year, the gross regional product amounted to 63.7 trillion soums ($5.2 billion). The number of large industrial enterprises increased to 30, while small businesses grew to 4,820. The volume of production in the region reached 18.8 trillion soums ($1.5 billion). During this period, foreign investments totaling $2.1 billion were attracted, and the export of local goods and services amounted to $483 million, reaching 37 countries worldwide.
Currently, investment projects worth about $1.6 billion are being implemented in the region, covering various sectors of the economy, including housing construction, energy, pharmaceuticals, and tourism. Businessmen from Russia, China, Turkey, Pakistan, Japan, Germany, India, and Mongolia are participating in these initiatives.
